Obasanjo Is ‘The Grandfather Of Corruption’, House Of Reps Hits Back

Nigeria’s House of Representatives has shot back at the scathing criticism the House received from a former President, Olusegun Obasanjo. Obasanjo who spoke at the first Akintola Williams lecture criticized the Legislature and said the National Assembly ‘Stinks to high heavens of corruption’

It is not the first time Olusegun Obasanjo has criticized the National Assembly but this time the House has replied in equally strong terms, labeling the former president the ‘grandfather of corruption’.

The House of Reps rebuttal came through the chairman of the  Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Abdulrazak Namdas.

Namdas noted, “Undoubtedly, former President Obasanjo is understandably angry with the National Assembly as an institution, having foiled his ambition for a third term in office even after trying to corrupt the members with a bribe of at least N50m each.

“Lest we forget, the person who introduced corruption to the National Assembly is Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. He birthed the 4th Republic National Assembly with corrupt practices from day one; indeed the first day of the Republic.

“He bribed the PDP, ANPP and AD legislators on their inauguration in 1999 to vote against the majority candidate of the PDP, (the late) Dr. Chuba Okadigbo. That was how Senator Evan Enwerem became the Senate President.

“Have we forgotten the sacks of money displayed on the floor of the House of Representatives, being bribe money paid by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to some honorable members to impeach the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Ghali N’abba?

“Have we forgotten that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo used his position as President to extort businessmen and contractors to build his presidential library?

“The list of his corrupt acts while in office is endless. Unquestionably, he is the greatest corrupt person ever to hold office in Nigeria. He remains the grandfather of corruption in Nigeria and lacks the moral authority to discuss corruption or abuse of office in Nigeria as he remains the most corrupt Nigerian on record.”

He explained, “He claimed that the National Assembly’s budget is very high, when by all standards, the National Assembly is grossly underfunded and is hampered from effectively and legitimately carrying out its constitutionally assigned functions.”

“It is unfortunate that he has started his very familiar method of bringing down governments. He did it to Alhaji Shehu Shagari, he did it to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, he did the same to Gen. (Ibrahim) Babangida; and he attempted to bring down (the late) Gen. Sani Abacha before he imprisoned him for treason.

“He made frantic efforts to derail the government of (the late) President Musa Ya’Ardua when he couldn’t use him. He supported President Goodluck Jonathan, but when he refused to take his dictation, he turned against him.

“He supported President Buhari, but since he has sensed that Nigeria is having economic difficulties under him, he has pounced to derail his government.”

  1. Well said Hon.Abdulrazak Namdas ure on point, he should realise his relevance is not needed in government again, ever since he lost his bid for a third term as president he made it his duty to criticize every government he can’t control, see what he did to Adolphus Wabara after he refused the 50M bribe& urged other senators to follow suit, also screwed his brothers banks Hallmark bank because he didn’t want him to become a governor.
Ruined poultry owners businesses by enforcing only his day old products were bought.
A man who sleeps with his daughter In-law what more do u expect from such a person, even slept with the wife of Gen. Murtala Mohammed Ajoke Muhammed,Eugenia Abu,Kema Chikwe, mother of Orji Uzor Kalu & so many other married women in and outside cabinet especially female ministers.
He is obviously the most corrupt president we have ever had in Nigeria.

  2. To me OBJ is talking sense, a father that was formally a womanizer and had realized the consequences has right educate his children, that is why he is a fearless leader among the so called leaders, even in today’s paper Gen Gowon talks about corruption but he dear not mention anybody’s name because if he does the same national assembly will ask him why he was overthrownd in 1975 not that he did not know where the main corruption is coming from. This is the right time to be looking at the message not the messenger, we should also remember that God does not called the qualified but he qualifies the called, national assembly can never agree that they are corrupt, let us join hands together and call a spade spade, he was there during the military era, even president for 8years in this civilian regime, he knows what he is talking about
