impounded alcohol

Sixty-nine and a half crates of expired alcohol have been impounded by the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) from a distributor located at Awba-Ofemmili, Awka North LGA of Anambra State.

This was disclosed by CPC’s South-East Zonal Coordinator, Mrs Ngozika Obidike, to newsmen in Awka.

Obidike said the seizure was made following complaints by residents of the area, about possible food poisoning after consuming a brand of alcoholic drinks allegedly purchased from the distributor.

The complainant, Mr Ikechukwu Nnajidenma and his friends experienced severe purging and vomiting, which made them to look at the bottles, to find out that the drinks had expired.

“We visited the warehouse with policemen, and discovered that sixty-nine and half cartons of the drinks have all expired. We quickly took custody of them for investigation,” she said.
