Police Dock Church Members Over Alleged Plan To Kidnap Priest

The police in Ogun State has arraigned nine members of the Cathedral Church of Christ, Ilaro, before an Ogun State chief magistrate court sitting in Ilaro over an alleged plan to kidnap the priest, Venerable E. Oluwatade.

The accused persons, who were arrested in the aftermath of a fracas that occurred in the church on May 1, 2016, over the leadership crisis that has been rocking the church, were arraigned before the court on a five- count charge.

Those arraigned are, Elegbede Gbenga, (32); Elegbede Bukola (30); Atunrase Oke (46); Atunrase Elizabeth (35); Adeniji Solomon (78); Adeniji Esther (60); Ogunwunmi Adebisi (60); Akinwunmi Ololade  (41) and Omoniyi Adedeji (35).

They were accused by the police of conspiracy, assault, conducting themselves in manners likely to cause breach of peace, disturbing religious worship and attempted kidnap of Venerable E. Oluwatade.

The accused persons who were arraigned on May 5, 2016, pleaded not guilty to all the count charges.

According to woman inspector, Bukola Abolade, the prosecutor, the accused persons alongside one, Agbokeye Rufus, who is now at large, on May 1, 2016, conspired together to plan the attempted kidnap and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of Criminal Code Cap 24 Vol. II Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria.
