The Ogun State Government has started taking beggars and destitute off major roads within Abeokuta, the state capital, noting that they constitute nuisance in the city.

Director, Rehabilitation Services, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr. Kehinde Egbeolowo, during the evacuation exercise, said the action became necessary due to the increasing number of beggars and destitute along major roads in the state capital.

He encouraged people with challenges requiring the ministry’s assistance to approach the Rehabilitation Services Department.

“The governor does not allow beggars and destitute in the state. If they need any assistance, they should come to the ministry and government will give necessary assistance,” he said.

Egbeolowo noted that government had empowered some beggars who were earlier evacuated, adding that they are now well established.
