Kaduna To Introduce Uniform Menu For Boarding Schools

Nasir el-RufaiThe Kaduna State government is to introduce a harmonised feeding system in all boarding schools in the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Shehu Usman, who stated this during a press briefing in Kaduna Tuesday, said that though the normal feeding fee charged in boarding schools would be retained, Governor Nasir El-Rufai had approved some funds to improve the quality of food served students.
“What we intend to do is to come out with a uniform menu for boarding schools in the state so that all boarding students will be served the same menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. When a child is fed rice and stew in the afternoon on Tuesday in Barewa College, the same menu would be served in all other boarding schools across the state. This is aimed at making sure that the quality of food served is well monitored and controlled as well as to ensure that the children are well fed”, he said.
“There are strong committees working towards its actualisation. Considering that we took over the government at the middle of the year, there is need for budget reviews and need for committees to work”, the commissioner added.
Usman said the governor was also planning to provide tablets that will contain all the text books for secondary school students in the sciences.
“It is going to be customised so that it can only be used for academic purpose. The ball has started rolling and with time, things will begin to come to reality”, he said.
