Ex-Minister Yerima, Two Others, Reject Yobe PDP Governorship Primary

Yerima_NgamaA former Minister of State for Finance and governorship aspirant in Yobe State on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Yerima Ngama Lawan, alongside two other aspirants, have rejected the results of the gubernatorial primary of the party, saying the process was flawed and manipulated to suit a particular candidate.

The election, which was held at Legacy House in Abuja on Tuesday, produced a former Minister of Police Affairs and two-time PDP governorship candidate in the state, Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, as winner.

Yerima, Ibrahim Talba, and Hassan Kafayos Hussein, in a collective statement issued Wednesday, disassociated themselves from the results, alleging that the conduct of the primaries violated section 50 of the PDP constitution as well as the electoral guidelines of 2014 issued by the party.

The dissatisfied aspirants alleged that the list of the delegates that should have voted at the primaries was not shown to them, neither were they informed of the venue, time and necessary arrangements prior to the election.

“Out of the total of 670 delegates, only 21 participated in the purported primary elections”, they said.

“From the foregoing, it is clear that the whole process of the purported elections was manipulated for the purpose of achieving a pre-determined aim-i.e the emergence of a particular candidate. We therefore reject the elections and hereby urge our teaming supporters to be calm and law abiding”, the jointly-signed statement said.
