34 Council Chairmen Declare Assets In Kano – Code Of Conuct Bureau

kano-stateDirector, Code of Conduct Bureau in Kano State, Alhaji Umar Mati, said on Tuesday that 34 of the 44 newly elected council chairmen have returned their asset declaration forms.

Mati made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano.

He said that out of the 44 new local government vice-chairmen in the state, only 24 of them returned the completed assets form to the bureau.

“We have 480 Councillors here in Kano State but we are still expecting 137 of them to return their forms,’’ he said.

The director said the constitution provided that all elected office holders should collect, fill and return the forms even before being sworn-in.

“Therefore, it is our responsibility to issue them with the forms which we have sent to the governor’s office so as to enable them to fill before their swearing-in”.

According to him, the declaration of asset by elected office holders is aimed at ensuring transparent leadership and to assess their level of progress in life.

“At the end of their tenure, we will also issue them with another form to fill so that we can know the level of their development and the details of how they achieved it”, he said.

He urged the remaining elected officers to return their forms or face sanction as provided for in the constitution.
