Cesc Fabregas was forced to reject the chance to move to Manchester United in favour of Chelsea on the orders of his girlfriend Daniella Semaan, reports Mundo Deportivo.

The Spain international complete his move to Stamford Bridge on Thursday afternoon in a £27 million deal from Barcelona. Fabregas admitted that
Arsenal rejected the chance to re-sign him, leaving the battle for his signature down to Chelsea and Manchester United.

For Louis van Gaal, however, it seemed he was always fighting a losing battle in his reported attempts to sign Fabregas, as the player’s girlfriend had told him she would not be please if he decided
on a move to Old Trafford.

Semaan urged Fabregas to make sure he rejected Manchester United’s advances and find a club in London. With Arsenal out of the equation, Chelsea was the only viable option.

The reason is geographical rather than fandom for Semaan, who could not see herself setting up a life in Manchester but could accept the idea of living on
England’s capital.

Ideally, she would not have left Barcelona at all and had asked Fabregas to seriously consider staying at the Nou Camp despite the fact the club were
desperate to get rid of him.

Fabregas hailed his return to the Premier League as a chance to conclude some unfinished business and said it was crucial the move was announced before
Spain kicked off their World Cup campaign against the Netherlands.

The revelation is a further blow for Manchester United, who seem to be trying to spend a large transfer budget but are failing to convince players to
move to Old Trafford.

Life is uncertain for the Red Devils at the moment and the 13-time Premier League champions will not compete in any European competition next season.

Another finish outside the top four is likely to have devastating effects on their revenue stream, meaning their position at the top of world football is
in doubt.

That fact would have, no doubt, helped Fabregas make his final decision to join up with an old enemy in the form of Jose Mourinho.

Arsenal are set to receive around £5 million from the transfer thanks to a series of complex clauses inserted into the 2011 deal that took him from the
Emirates Stadium to the Nou Camp.

Fabregas will now compete with the likes of Oscar for a place in the Chelsea starting XI and would have been warned after the Brazilian put in an excellent
display against Croatia in the World Cup opener.{GMS}
