A 43-year-old labourer has been remanded at the Ikoyi prisons by an Ebute Meta chief magistrates’ court in Lagos, for allegedly raping a 7-year-old girl.
The accused, John Ayu who resides at No. 2, Omole Street, Ilaje, Ebute Meta (West), committed the crime on January 21, 2014 at about 6:30pm at his residence.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Richard Odigie, the accused and the victim’s family lived on the same street. On the day of the incident, Ayu’s wife dropped their baby with the victim’s sister. She waited for the baby’s mother to come pick her child but she didn’t. She therefore sent her little sister to return the baby to the mother.
Odigie said when the little girl got to Ayu’s house, she met him at home and he pushed her onto the bed and forcefully defiled her.
Ayu is therefore facing a one-count charge of defiling the girl.
