Former Plateau Deputy Governor Chief Michael Botmang Dies At 76

Former Deputy Governor of Plateau State Chief Michael Botmang has died in his country home of Zawan, Jos South local government area of the state, after a protracted illness.

Botmang has been on dialysis for some time following complications arising from diabetes. He finally succumbed to death on Saturday morning aged 76.

Confirming Botmang’s death, Governor, Jonah David Jang, while paying tribute, said “the former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Chief Michael Botmang, has served humanity to the best of his ability”.

In a statement signed by his Director of Press, James Mannok, Jang noted that Botmang fought in sickness to live and urged the family to accept his death as God’s time for him, adding that he loved the people and would be greatly missed.

Born 1938, Chief Michael Botmang, was a two-term deputy to Chief Joshua Dariye from 1999 to 2007 and acted briefly as governor from 13 November, 2006, when Dariye was impeached by six out of the 24 members of the state House of Assembly. He held forth for six months before the Supreme Court ordered the reinstatement of Dariye.
