Breaking News: Ogoni People Stage Mass Protests over Senator Abe’s Shooting

Thousands of Ogoni people from four local government areas in Rivers State, i.e. Khana, Gokana, Tai and Eleme, embarked on mass protests on January 13, 2014, Monday.

The people were protesting Sunday’s shooting of the representative of Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe.

Protesters blocked East-West Road in front of Eleme Petrochemical Company and no vehicular movement to refineries in Eleme, ports in Onne, Akwa Ibom and Cross River State were allowed.

They also called for the removal of the State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mbu.

Reports on Twitter confirm that the youths were rioting, and the local police shot back at them:
