Anambra LG Polls: Police Assures Of Adequate Security Arrangement

0012583d35776e6256f7fdbb7c5c0dbfThe Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Usman Gwary, on Wednesday assured the public of adequate security during the councils’ election in the state on Jan. 11.

Gwary told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to ensure a hitch-free council poll.

“Our strategies are many and not meant for public consumption.

“We are working hard to make sure the election is free and to give the participants equal opportunity.

“We assure you that the election will be violence free with your cooperation”, he said.

He said that Anambra was no longer violent as it was in the past, stressing that many things, particularly politics, had changed for good.

“Police will provide environment conducive for a successful council election as was done during the governorship poll in November last year”, Gwary said.

The commissioner, however, solicited for the cooperation of the citizens to ensure efficient policing of the state during the period.

“Our statutory responsibility of protection of life and property will never be compromised”.

He assured the public that with the support of other security agencies, peace would be maintained before, during and after the council poll.

NAN reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it has filed a suit challenging the conduct of the proposed council elections.

The party’s candidate in the Nov. 16, 2013 governorship election in the state, Sen. Chris Ngige, made the statement in Awka on Tuesday.

He said this at the inauguration of a 27-member state interim executive committee of the party. (NAN)
