‘INEC Recruited 2,000 Staff Nationwide’

JEGA-INECThe Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday said it employed about 2,000 new staff to strengthen its operational efficiency.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ekiti State, Alhaji Halilu Pai, said this when he addressed newsmen in Ado Ekiti.

He said that the new hands were engaged recently by the commission to boost its staff strength nationwide.

The commissioner said that the newly engaged staff had already been distributed evenly across the 36 state offices in the country, including Abuja.

Pai said that the intention of the commission was to bridge the gap usually created by the shortfall in staff strength.

He said that the development would no longer make the commission to solely rely on usage of ad-hoc staff to conduct its elections.

Pai urged stakeholders in the electoral system in Ekiti state not to be apprehensive about success or otherwise of next year’s governorship poll.

He said that the body was ready for a free, fair and transparent exercise, contrary to insinuations in some quarters. (NAN)
