Gunmen Kidnap Wife, Son Of PDP Chieftain In Bayelsa

UNKNOWN-GUNMEN1Daring gunmen have kidnapped the wife and son of the treasurer of the Bayelsa state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Gbalipre Turner.

The gunmen were said to have stormed the community and moved to the residence of their target in Opume, Ogbia Local Government Area and kidnapped their victims just as they shot sporadically into the air as they escaped.

The kidnapping was the second in two days, following the abduction of the 78-year old father of the Commissioner of Tourism Development, Nelson Belief.

Confirming the latest incident, Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alex Akhigbe, said the gunmen invaded the quiet community of Opume, adding that “I received information that the wife and son of the younger brother to King Turner was yesterday (Thursday) evening kidnapped by yet to be identified kidnappers.”

He added that “right now, our men have been deployed to the creeks to hunt down the kidnappers. Although the kidnappers have not made any contact with the family, we are waiting to establish contact so that we can be able to follow them up”.

The PDP chieftain is the younger brother of King Amalate Turner, the Obanema of Opume Kingdom.
