Sokoto State acting governor, Alhaji Mukhtari Shagari has advised politicians to stop taking politics as a do-or-die affair.

Mr. Shagari gave the advice when members of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State council paid him Sallah homage at his residence.

He also expressed optimism that the country will survive its current political impasse and emerge stronger.

“It’s just like the prominent slogan, soldier come, soldier go, but barrack remains. All these problems would come and go but Nigeria would remain stronger and one,” he said.
Shagari, who was one time minister of water resources, observed that what is lacking among Nigerians is the spirit of brotherliness.

“We can only progress when we are our brothers’ keepers, when we love this country the way we love our first wives and be ready to sacrifice for its development and unity.

“I pray for the day when a Sokoto man can contest election and win in Enugu and when an Igbo man can contest and win election in Sokoto. This is what is happening in some countries, particularly America, where as an American, you have the right to choose where to stay and where to represent not necessarily where you originated from,” he stated.
