The Nigeria international forward had a medical at Cardiff on Monday afternoon and has now signed a 2-year deal with Malky Mackay’s side.

He became the Premier League newcomers’ eighth signing of the summer transfer window, which closed by midnight on Monday.

“I’m delighted to complete my move to Cardiff City,” Odemwingie told the club’s official website.

“I’m looking forward to this fresh start at a club that is really going places, a team that’s progressing fast.”

Two other Premier League clubs (Swansea and Stoke City) had expressed interest in the 32-year-old in the last 24 hours of the transfer deadline day but the former Lokomotiv Moscow striker said his “father-in-law” was instrumental to his decision. He will link up with his new teammates later this week.

“My father-in-law is a City fan and he’s told me what a great club this is. I’m looking forward to meeting up with the boys and then start preparing for the trip to Hull after the international break.”

Odemwingie, who has earned over 50 caps on the international stage, has not featured for the Super Eagles for a long time and has since expressed his willingness to return to the team, “if invited”.

Cardiff have four points from their first three league game, the highpoint of which was their 3-2 victory over Manchester City and had lost to West Ham but managed a point against Everton last weekend. Their next game will be against Hull City.
