Newspaper Advertising Sales(Salary plus Commission) – Corporate Pen Pushers

Corporate Pen Pushers is a corporate communications consultancy specializing in publishing newspapers and newsletters. Its newspaper division focuses primarily on producing and publishing community newspapers in various neighbourhoods across Nigeria, primarily in Lagos. The newsletter division, on the other hand, edits and publishes in-house newsletters for corporate bodies and other organisations.

Job Description

The position is for an advert salesperson who will sell display advertising space for a group of community newspapers covering neighbourhoods across Nigeria, though primarily in Lagos. The publications cover issues of concern and interest to residents and businesses of coverage areas.
Each local edition reflects the community and tells its stories. It makes national and international news stories relate by finding a significant local angle. In addition to keeping its public informed and providing a timely account of current affairs of the neighbourhood, the publication also serves as a watchdog to hold public officials accountable, highlighting what is being done or not done, or who is responsible for those things.
The ideal candidate for the position is one who has the ability to seek out new clients to advertise in the newspaper. Such a person will utilize his/her experience in cold calling and prospecting to generate new business opportunities for our advertising department. Duties include relationship-building within the Ikeja and Ilupeju communities; working with businesses in those areas to develop their marketing strategies; helping them increase their customers, sales, and market share; and assisting them to perpetuate their brand.

Desired Skills & Experience

Sales/Marketing experience is mandatory; previous media sales experience a plus. The preferred candidate is one who will generate his/her own leads and is comfortable with cold-calling or knocking on doors uninvited. A passing familiarity with the neighbourhoods mentioned above would be a plus, especially if the candidate has lived or worked in either of the places. The person we are looking for is a problem-solver, is confident, at ease in front of others, outgoing, competitive, persuasive, goal-driven, enjoys working with the public, and likes getting recognition for a job well done.
Candidates must possess strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; excellent organizational and presentation skills; as well as the ability to close sales on a regular basis. Familiarity with computers, including proficiency in Word and Excel is preferred. Priority will be given to candidates who demonstrate excellent time-management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
