Sevilla have agreed a fee with Manchester City for Jesus Navas. The 27- year- old Spanish winger is said to be valued at £17 million plus add-on.

Navas has been with Sevilla for the whole of his career and will be teaming up with fellow Spaniard David Silva at the Etihad stadium. He was part of Spain’s successful 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 squads and has been named in the 23-man party named for the FIFA Confederation Cup.

The winger would be City’s first major signing of the summer and was a member of the Sevilla team that won the UEFA Cup in 2006 and in 2007.

City-Sevilla transfer agreement means that Navas has finally suppressed his phobia for traveling away from his Andalusian home, which has probably cost him his place in the Spanish national side for long.

The quick right winger, regarded as a tough tackler despite his skinny stature, has been crticised for his lack of goals after failing to find the net in 37 league appearances last term.

A statement on the Sevilla website read: “Jesus Navas leaves Sevilla for Manchester City.

“Sevilla accepted an offer from the English club on Monday taking into account the desire of the player, who will now have to pass a medical.

“Navas wants to continue his successful sporting career in English football, more precisely at a club where he can continue to develop as a footballer, as he has publicly stated on various occasions in recent months.”

The winger has 20 caps for the Spanish national team.
