The City forward was a potential transfer target for Real Madrid ahead of the recruitment of Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini, but has shown his commitment to City by agreeing the new deal before the introduction of the highly favoured Chilean.

“I’m very happy at City and I feel very appreciated. It’s been barely two years since I arrived and sometimes I feel like I’ve been here for all my life,” Aguero recently said.

“I have a fantastic relationship with the fans, and that always reminds me of our title and that goal against QPR, I can never forget that moment.

“Now I am looking forward to next season and pushing hard to win the title again.”

While his fellow Argentinean Carlos Tevez is among the players bracing up for a most probable exit from the Etihad, for Aguero to follow the footsteps of Yaya Toure, David Silva and Gael Clichy in extending his stay goes a long way to prove where the club lies in his heart.

Aguero incidentally could be the only forward from City’s title- winning season to remain when Pellegrini resumes duty, as Edin Dzeko and Tevez has been linked with a transfer and Mario Balotelli was sold months earlier.

The striker arrived from Atletico Madrid for£38 million in 2011. He has scored 47 goals in 69 starts.
