The 37th edition of the Schneider Electric Marathon des Paris, an IAAF gold label Road Race took place on April 7, 2013, with Boru Feyse Tadese setting a world leading time and women’s course course record of 2:21:05.
The women’s race started very fast, as the leaders ran 16:44 at 5km, faster than the 17:01 that Ethiopian Tirfi Beyene ran when she broke the Paris Marathon course last year (2:21:37.)
After one hour, Eunice Kirwa Jepkirui of Kenya- the fastest with a 2:21:41 personal best and a pre- race favourite- was having a good time after leading Ethiopean Merimat Mohammed, the winner in Houston this year with 2:
23:37, Amane Gobena, winner Seoul and Osaka in 2010, and Marathon debutante Imana Gutemi.
Boru Feyse Tadese then moved into the lead and went through the half- way mark in 1:10:08- the fastest ever intermidiate time in Paris. The 25- year- old ran very steadily and progressively to build up her winning margin, disposing off Jepkirui and Mohammed before the Bois de Boulogne. He finished the race with a final time of 2:21:05, a world- leading time, and a Paris Marathon course record. This was another personal best after her 68:35 at RAK Half Marathon in February; she has henceforth increased her previous best by more than two minutes.
She now moves to 25th on the all- time list, one place ahead of Ingrid Kristiansen’s former long- standing World record (2:21:14,20) seconds.
In the men race, Kenya’s Peter Some smashed his personal best more than three minutes to win the race in 2:05:38, ahead of Tadese Tola (ETH.) 2:06:33, and Eric Ndiema (KEN.) 2:06:34.
