Zabarmari Massacre: Senate Calls For Removal Of Service Chiefs

The Nigerian Senate has called for the mandatory removal of service chiefs from office following the recent beheading of 43 farmers by members of the Boko Haram sect in Borno on Saturday.

The members of the red chamber called on President Muhammadu Buhari to replace the service chiefs with people who have fresh ideas on combatting insecurity in the nation.

The lawmakers made this recommendation at Tuesday’s plenary during a debate on security in the nation.

The lawmakers also recommended that 10,000 civilian JTF be recruited to complement the efforts of the armed forces and explore a multilateral partnership with Niger, Chad, and Cameroon.

Former Borno governor, Senator Kashim Shettima raised the motion of the sacking of the service chiefs at plenary on Tuesday.

The lawmaker also claimed that 67 farmers were killed in the attack.

He warned that any government that cannot protect the lives of its citizens’ losses any iota of legitimacy.
