Hakeem Odumosu, Lagos state commissioner of police, says Princewill David, the UBER passenger who jumped into the lagoon, did so to escape justice for killing his girlfriend.

The police boss said this on Thursday at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja, while revealing that David killed his girlfriend after a disagreement between them in a hotel.

While parading David with some other suspects, the police chief said the 28-year-old suspect immediately booked the cab-hailing service to third mainland bridge where he could commit suicide and escape from the crime he committed.

“He had an altercation with his girlfriend and killed her in a hotel and went to jump into the lagoon to escape justice for the crime he committed,” the police commissioner said.

David was said to have booked the taxi from Igando and had told the driver to pass through the third mainland bridge. Upon getting there, he asked the driver to stop that he needed to ease him.

The driver, who sense there could be trouble, drove close to the section where officials of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were stationed to inform them of his passenger’s strange behaviour.

David was said to have jumped out of the car into the lagoon and reportedly landed on a floating wood beneath the bridge. He was reportedly rescued by the security officers.
