Cameroon Confirms First Case Of Coronavirus

Cameroon’s public health minister, Manaouda Malachie, says it has confirmed the index case of the deadly coronavirus.

According to the health minister, the patient is a 58-year-old French citizen who arrived in the capital Yaounde on February 24 and has been quarantined in the city’s central hospital.

“The case was placed in solitary confinement in the Care Centre of the Yaounde Central Hospital for appropriate treatment,” Malachie said.

“All measures are being taken by the government to contain possible risks of the spread of the virus.”

The health official urged the public to be “vigilant and respect hygiene rules”.

This makes Cameroon, the eight country in Africa to report the arrival of the virus ,after Egypt, Algeria, Senegal, Nigeria, Tunisia, Morocco, and South Africa
