Afro-fusion singer and songwriter, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy is definitely on an unstoppable journey to stardom. Having stayed unrated for a long time, the recent Best International Act at the 2019 BET Awards has a firm grip on success and his riding to full capacity.
The 28-year-old started off at Aristokrat Records, releasing his debut studio album L.I.F.E on August 12, 2013 and sold 40,000 copies on the first day of its release.
Then came some of our all time favourite; “Like to Party”, “Tonight”, “Always Love You”, “Run My Race” and “Yawa Dey”. Things started looking really promising for the ‘say it as it is’ Burna after the release of his third studio album, Outside.
Of course, along came Beyonce’s ‘Lion King: The Gift album project’, festuring a host of our favourites Nigerian musicians, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Wizkid, Tekno, and the African Giant, Burna Boy who stood alone, Jara E.
It’s not like our man of the moment has been without done controversies that actually threatened the very rock of his career – but like some lucky few, he has been able to pull through, bouncing back even better.
No one can forget in a hurry, how Burna made a fuss of the font used in spelling his name for his invitation to perform at Coachella, an annual music and arts festival held at the Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert; at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
And the allegations of sending robbers to attack colleague, Mr 2Kay in a Lagos hotel through his road manager, Joel Kantiock.
However here’s is Burna, doing well in music both locally and internationally too, endorsements flying in from a corners with a beautiful woman, Steflon Don in his life – We can only hope for the best for him.
