Islamic Teacher Bags 7-year Jail Term For Having Anal Sex With 35 Boys

A 33-year-old Islamic teacher, Abubakar Abdullahi, has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for having anal sex with 35 of his pupils. The decision was made by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Minna, Niger state on Monday. The convict was charged with unnatural offence, contrary to section 284 of the penal code law and was slammed with a 7-year-imprisonment. According to Police Prosecutor, ASP. Daniel Ikwoche, one Murtala Abdullahi, a Hisbah Commander in Kontagora Local Government Area reported the matter at the ‘A’ Police Division in Kontagora on July 22.

Police, DSS Stop #RevolutionNow Protest In Osun

Protesting members of the #RevolutionNow group were abruptly stopped from marching through the streets of Osogbo, the Osun State capital by armed security personnel. Just as the protesters were about to get started on the business of the day on Monday, police officers and Department of State Services operatives stormed the venue.

Gunmen Kidnap Enugu Monarch, Wife; Demand N50M Ransom

Unknown gunmen have kidnapped the traditional ruler of Obom Autonomous Community in Agbogugu, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Sunday Orji and his wife. Sunday Orji and his wife were kidnapped on the Enugu-Portharcourt expressway, near Ogbaku town at 5pm on Sunday. According to reports, the duo were heading for a thanksgiving service of a newly ordained Catholic priest from Obinagu community, Agbogugu, when they were kidnapped. A source disclosed that the kidnappers have contacted the family and are demanding N50 million as ransom.

Rights activists have urged victims to quit an abusive relationship for the sake of their safety, and narratives of one couple killing another in a case of domestic violence has been rift in recent times. The cleric, in a tweet on Monday, described a person who decides to remain in an abusive relationship as no longer a victim but a volunteer.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has said that the state is against the #RevolutionNow, organised by the publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, now in the custody of the Department of State Services(DSS). The mass protests were scheduled to hold in the country on Monday, and organizers have vowed that the protests will hold despite arrest of the convener. But, in a statement by the Rivers State governor on Sunday, the state does not subscribe to the protests and is not part of it. He urged parents to ensure that their children are not led astray to participate in the ‘illegal’ march.

#RevolutionNow: Police Fire Teargas At Protesters

The police have dispersed a group of #RevolutionNow protesters gathered at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos. The Police, Army and other security operatives were on ground to ensure that the march scheduled to hold on Monday does not hold. Some protesters were arrested and taken into a van marked ‘Lagos State Task Force’ while others were shot and teargassed with police maintaining that though, the protest was peaceful, it was an “unlawful assembly”.
