Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria have clashed with the police at the Federal Secretariat on Monday.
According to reports, police fired gunshots and tear gas to disperse the protesters, causing serious chaos among commuters and motorists.
A sub-station of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) at the federal secretariat, Abuja, was said to have also been set on fire.
Earlier, the IMN members had stormed the National Assembly complex two weeks ago to protest the release of their leader, Ibraheem Elzakzaky.
The spokesman of Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Abdullahi Musa, who spoke with The Nation, vowed to continue the protest on Monday despite the ugly development.
