A Nigerian-born basketball player Calistus Anyichie has died.
According to reports, Anyichie died on Sunday, after drowning at Buttermilk Falls State Park near Ithaca, New York.
Anyichie who was a student at Binghamton University was a member of the University’s basketball team.
His body was found at the base of a 15-foot bank at around 5 p.m on Sunday.
Anyichie attended St. Mary-Assumption High School, where he was the school’s team captain. He was also selected all-conference as a senior.
Tommy Dempsey, head coach of the Binghamton University men’s basketball team, confirming the death said via a statement;
“There are no words. There is no blueprint for how to deal with such a painful loss.”We all loved Calistus so much. He was such a special young man. We are devastated.”
