Enugu airport set to be shutdown by the Federal Government

Plans have been announced by the Federal Government of Nigeria to shut down the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, due to security reasons.

Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, while speaking at a stakeholders forum on Friday, revealed that the airport will be degraded for international operations. Sirika explained that this has to be done as the runway length is not ideal for such operations.

He added that the market, television masts and free trade zone needs also must be relocated so the airport can be safe for flights.
