State Attorney who handled Jussie Smollett's case subpoenaed

Kim Foxx, Chicago state attorney has been Subpoenaed over how she handled Hollywood actor’s case, Jussie Smollet.

The top Chicago prosecutor has been severally criticised for how she handled the ‘attack’ case of Smollett — And has now been subpoenaed to appear at a court hearing.

The subpoena was given by a retired appellate judge who wants a special prosecutor appointed to look into how the Chicago state attorney dealt with the highly controversial case.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the retired judge Sheila O’Brien filed the petition for a special prosecutor, as well as a “notice to appear” — This is to get Jussie to attend Thursday’s court hearing.

Foxx and Smollett have been asked to produce all original documents in the case in order to ascertain “that they have not been altered or destroyed.”

The retired judge says “Foxx misled the public into believing that Smollett’s case was handled like any other prosecution and without influence,” whereas it was “plagued with irregularities”.

However, the Chicago state attorney has said that she has no problem with an independent investigation. She also defended her decision to drop all 16-count charges against the ‘Empire’ actor.
