Barcelona forward, Lionel ‘Andres’ Messi, will miss out on this year’s prestigious Ballon d’or award after reports claim that he has been excluded from the top three this year. The Argentine enjoyed a fine season with Fc Barcelona in the 2017/18 season, guiding them to their third La Liga title in four years and in the process, becoming Europe’s top scorer with 45 goals.
According to sky sports, Modric will claim the award while Cristiano Ronaldo and World Cup winner, Antoine Griezmann will complete the top 3. Ronaldo’s former teammate, Modric, is the favorite to win the award having blossomed for club and country in the last 12 months. Meanwhile, this will be Messi’s omission from the Ballon d’or top three since 2006.
