APC Suspends Chairman Over Misconduct

APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State says it has suspended its Chairman, Joshua Eleti, over alleged misconduct and misuse of office.

The secretary of the party in Akure north, Olugbega Fadeyi, stated this at a press conference on Monday in Iju- Itaogbolu (Akure North).

He also announced the setting up of a three-man fact finding committee to look into the allegations levelled against Eleti.

Mr Fadeyi said the vice chairman of the party, Olufunke Adu, would take over as acting chairman of the party pending the determination of the allegations against Eleti.

Members of the three-man committee set up to investigate Eleti are: Kunle Ogunniyi, the assistant legal adviser of the party in the area, Emmanuel Olubi, chairman of chairmen of all wards and Afolayan Omotayo, ex-officio.

According to Mr Fadeyi, the party at the local government level met to review the activities of the party before during and after the primaries and found the chairman wanting in some areas.

“The Executive committee members after discussions and deliberations discovered that some party officials acted against the conduct and outcome of the Oct. 6 party primaries.

“For instance, specific allegations of gross abuse of office, financial impropriety, negligence and dereliction of duty, an act capable of bringing the party into ridicule were found against Mr Joshua Eleti, our chairman,” he said.

Olufunke Adu, the acting chairman of the party in the area, promised to work to the best of her ability and according to the constitution of the party.

Mr Eleti, in his reaction, dismissed the suspension slammed on him, saying he was never present at the meeting where he was purportedly suspended.

He maintained that he still remains the chairman of the party in the area, describing the suspension as “a charade”.

The Cable News Network, CNN seems not done with the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government with the television channel releasing another report on the shooting at the Lekki toll gate during the End SARS protests.

Recall that the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, called out CNN over its report on the incident.

He added that CNN was biased in its report and needs to be sanctioned.

The Minister also addressed a letter to the management of CNN in Atlanta.

The network, however, on Tuesday released the second report with more damning footage showing soldiers shooting at unarmed protesters on October 20, 2020.

The second report also shows the Commander, 81 Division, Brig.Gen Ahmed Taiwo, admitting before the judicial panel in Lagos that military men had live ammunition in their weapons while at the tollgate.

CNN also noted that the statement of Brig.Gen Taiwo contradicts that of the Minister who had claimed last week that the army fired blank bullets.

It was also revealed in the new report, the moment when protesters were running as soldiers open fire at the tollgate.
