Residents In Shock As Man Commits Suicide By Hanging Behind A Church In Abakaliki

The body of a man identified as Emmanuel Igwe, who runs a restaurant, was on Friday, found dangling on a tree in the Ishielu Campus of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) in Abakaliki on Friday.

According to The Nation, residents of the area who discovered his body hanging from a tree behind a Pentecostal Church along Highlander Street in Ishieke, were thrown into a sober mood.

It was gathered that the residents alerted the Police who came to the scene and brought down the corpse of  40-years-old man popularly known as Ezeugo, from the tree it was dangling from.

While speaking to journalists, the deceased’s daughter, Uzoamaka said her father left their House as usual to his restaurant but later called her mother on phone and told her to take care of the children..

She said her father did not respond to her mother questions but was unexpectedly found hanging on the tree.

A friend of the deceased, Chimex Unah expressed sadness over the sudden death of the deceased whom he described as a hardworking person.

He said the deceased did not show any signs of being depressed as he was always jovial, gentle and related with everyone very well.

“I know Ezeugo very well, he is a jovial. We have stayed together for some time in Ishieke market. I came to the market today only to hear that he has committed suicide by hanging himself.

“I went to the scene and saw things for myself and he was still hanging on a tree when I got there. We were there until policemen came and brought down his corpse”, he said.
