Some pro-Buhari supporters on Thursday protested against the presidential bid of the publisher of Saharareporters, Omoloye Sowore around 12:00pm at the Emir’s Palace, Kano shortly after the aspirant paid a courtesy call on the emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

According to a report by Daily Nigerian, the pro-Buhari supporters disguised as the emir’s visitors, while waiting for the presidential aspirant to come out.

When Mr Sowore’s 4-car convoy was coming out of the palace, the Pro-Buhari supporters charged at the white 1996 Mercedes Benz C-Class which he was in, chanting pro-Buhari slogans and holding placards.

Some of the placards read “We are not in support of Sowore”, “Sowore you are not welcomed to Kano”, “ Your anti-Buhari agenda will not work”, among others.

The youth were also shouting “ba ma yi, sai Buhari” (We don’t support anybody but Buhari) in unison.

Other protesters went closer to vehicle with the placards, saying “Sowore you must read these messages”.

As the commotion heightened, Mr Sowore’s driver quickly zoomed off.

Speaking at the scene 0f the protest, the President of Kano State Youth Council, Kabiru Lakwaya, who led the protest, said they staged the peaceful protest in order to show Mr Sowore that he would not succeed in his presidential bid.

According to him, they rejected Mr Sowore due to his anti-north agenda, alleging that he was at the forefront of clamouring for dividing Nigeria.

“As youth, we don’t even know Sowore’s pedigree in the development of this country. I think he has just been employed by some unscrupulous politicians to cause distractions to Buhari’s good leadership style.

“As far as the youth in this country are concerned, we are satisfied with Buhari’s leadership, that is why we intend to give him another chance to accomplish his mission,” he said.

Mr Lakawaya also vowed that they would not support any candidate but Mr Buhari.

Another protester, Abdullahi Abubakar, a student in Bayero University Kano, also said that they were not in support of Mr Sowore’s bid for his “hidden agenda”.

He alleged that Mr Sowore was only on a mission to divide Nigeria when he gets to power, stressing that the youth in Kano, who were the highest in the country would not give him any chance.

While at the palace, Mr Sowore said he was there to greet the emir because he was the advocate of youth development.

According to him, Nigerian youth are tired of being blocked by the old politicians in governance, stressing that was the main reason he launched his presidential bid.

Mr Sowore added that as aspirant in the coalition party, he could turn things around in Nigeria within the shortest period of time, promising to fix Kano-Kaduna road within months.

“Since in school, I was an advocate for youth development. That is why we came up with Sahara Reporters in order to develop this country. We want to unseat all these aged politicians to pave way for the agile youth.

“Look at this Kano-Kaduna road, I would like fix it in less than 3 months not years. We want to turn things around as fast as possible.

“That is why I have paid a visit to the emir. He is my man. He is an advocate for development and I am always his collaborator. Look at how he exposed corruptions in this country during Jonathan administration. I was the only journalist who received the emir at airport after he was removed from CBN. I was the one who saved emir from the SSS when they wanted to arrest him.

“In Kano, I have no doubt Buhari enjoys massive support here, but as you can see, I am also popular here and I just started the campaigns 5 weeks ago. So I can move freely in Kano. I am working in the coalition of party and it will be a big coalition,” he said

In his remarks, the emir cautioned politicians against violence, urging them to engage on issue-based campaigns.

Mr Sanusi also called on politicians to shun all forms of violence that would endanger the life of the masses, noting that would not augur well for the development of the country.

Mohammed said the deaths resulted from unwanted and unplanned pregnancies by both married and unmarried women of childbearing ages who, after becoming pregnant, visited quack health workers to terminate the pregnancies.

He said the lack of understanding of the importance of child spacing as well as ignorance of what to do with such pregnancies had become a major problem to family health in the state.

He emphasized the need for adequate sex education for the girl-child by parents, particularly mothers, to reduce unwanted pregnancies, thereby reducing deaths from complications.
