Police arrests 18 persons for Ibadan clash

18 suspects have been arrested for in connection with the mayhem perpetrated by hoodlums in some areas of Ibadan, this was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abiodun Odunde.

Rival groups in Oke-Ado, Foko, Apena, Gege, Isale Osi, Born Photo, Oopoyeosa, and Popoyemoja on Wednesday engaged one another in fight.

Many of them were injured in the encounter which they dubbed, Operation No Mercy.

Frequent clashes have become rampant among youths in the area, with many shops often looted during ensuing commotion.

Odude, who visited the scene of the mayhem on Thursday, warned youths to desist from violence, saying the police would deal with troublemakers.

The commissioner, who also visited the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, at his Popoyemoja palace, said, “We have come to visit the scenes to see if we can identify the leaders and talk to them, and make sure we keep this town as peaceful as possible. The residents of the affected areas and people of Oyo State should live peacefully. We are on top of the situation.”

The Olubadan, confirmed to newsmen, that he had been briefed on the fracas and that he had summoned the family heads in the affected communities to a meeting.
