Saraki disagrees with Kwara poly authorities over proposed tuition hike

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has ordered the authorities of Kwara State Polytechnic to stop the increment in fees for the 2017/18 academic session.

Saraki, in a statement issued on Monday through the Kwara State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, disagreed with the institution’s claim that fees were not increased.

He noted that the management of the polytechnic had, contrary to its claim, increased fees despite agitations by the students of the institution.

The Senate President said, “Students from my constituency sent me the details of the school fees that the Registrar of the Kwara State Polytechnic released for the 2017/2018 academic session through Whatsapp.

“After reviewing it, I found out that there was a deliberate attempt to confuse and mislead the state government and the general public.

“It is obvious that a second year student in 2017/18 is now expected to pay N20,000 more than what second year students paid in the 2016/17 session. This is contrary to the claim contained in the statement released by the institution just last week.”

  1. This is a welcome decision from the senate president that the fees should not increased. Secondly the disparity between indigene and non indigene fees is not good. for example a non indigene reside in the state for over twenty years and paying tax to kwara state and you still expect him to pay non indigene fees is not worth it. University of Ilorin, indigene and non indigene are paying the same fees.
The government of the state and management of kwara poly should look into this.
When election comes we all vote in the state. The children under question of non indigene 95% were born in Ilorin and you are still calling them non indigene. Its unfair.

  2. SARAKI MAY YOU LIVE LONG.EVEN WITH THIS ECONOMY THEY ARE INCREASING RATHER THAN REDUCING SCHOOL FEES.THE POLYTECHNIC AUTHORITY ARE JUST INTERESTED IN WHAT WILL GO INTO THEIR PURSE IN THIS THEIR TENURE.
IT IS AN ECONOMIC CRIME TO INCREASE SCHOOL FEES WHEN MANY PARENTS CANT FEED TWICE A DAY.PERHAPS THEY WANT MANY PARENTS TO COMMIT SUICIDE.EFCC SHOULD INVITE THE AUTHORITY FOR PROPER QUESTIONING.
