Four suspected rapists nabbed in Akwa Ibom

It was the end of the road for some suspected armed robbers and rapists after they were been arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command in Aka Community Secondary School Road, Uyo, on November 26.

The suspects, one Meyene Asuquo and three others, were alleged to have raped a married woman, stolen mobile phones, electronics and other household items during the robbery.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Bala Elkana, explained that the command, after receiving a distress call around 2am, dispatched the anti-kidnapping squad to the area.

He said, “Before the arrival of our policemen at the scene, the robbers, who were about six in number, had escaped to a nearby bush.”

Elkana added that the police were able to apprehend one of the fleeing suspected armed robbers on December 6 at about 4am after a discreet investigation.

He added that the police were able to recover a single-barrelled gun after searching his house.

He noted that the suspect, who had confessed to using the gun for robbery, led the police to arrest three others for their involvement in the robbery at Aka Community Secondary School Road.

The PPRO said other gang members would soon be arrested.
