Students In Overseas Study Get N105m

The Ebonyi State government, South-eastern part of Nigeria has handed a cheque to international students from the state to aid their learning activities.
Thirty-five university students of Ebonyi State origin studying abroad under its scholarship scheme have received a cheque of N3m each from the government.
The beneficiaries were considered for the award through the state government Family Succour and Upliftment Foundation, a pet project of Mrs Rachael Umahi, the governor’s wife.
Mrs Umahi, while making the presentation, said that the gesture was to enable the students to complete their educational pursuits in their various universities abroad.
The occasion was at the launch of a support group known as Ebonyi Women Movement for Akubaraoha, urban chapter. The governor’s wife commended members of the association for devoting time and for their total support to the present administration.
The award went to students of the state studying at Universities of Hull and Anglia Ruskin, both in the UK.

“Women have proved themselves as the true backbone of the society, who could be depended upon for the actualisation of any meaningful goal,” Umahi said.
The Chairman of the occasion, Mrs Eunice Egwu, advised women to encourage one another, train their girl children in school and always supervise their daily activities.
“Our principal target is to ensure that the governor comes back in 2019 because it is good to support those who have done well,” Mrs Egwu, wife of a former governor of the state, said.
Meanwhile, Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu, the President of EBOWOMA and Focal Person, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), had given an assurance that over 40 percent of urban dwellers who voted for the governor in the last elections, would repeat the same feat to re-elect the governor in 2019.
“I commend the governor for his transformational leadership and also for being the first governor to domesticate and recognise SDGs,” Obichukwu said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi, Mr Oyekachi Nwebonyi, commended the efforts of the women.
“I appreciate the efforts of the administration which has taken the welfare of everyone upon itself,” Nwebonyi said.
The event featured different support groups such as Joint Military and Paramilitary Officers Wives Association, National Council of Women Societies, among other women organisations in the state.
