Rift with Harrysong won’t stop me from helping people –Kcee

Limpopo singer, Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo, popularly known as Kcee in showbiz circles, has insisted that the disagreement with his former label mate, Harrysong, will not stop him from extending opportunities to other talented artistes.

Harrysong left Five Star Music in a controversial manner. He has set up his own record label, Alterplate Music, even though the conflict has yet to be resolved amicably.

Kcee, however, admitted to Sunday Scoop that the manner in which Harrysong left his record company almost affected his desire to sign on other artistes, but he had to fight it.

“I sat down and thought about it. I said to myself that humans are different so you cannot judge everyone by somebody’s wrongdoing. I think everyone deserves a chance; everyone deserves an opportunity. But it has to be clear when I do this with other people. I often advise record label owners to tell artistes to bring their lawyers before signing any deal. The up and coming artistes are usually desperate and hungry to get to the next level, but once they get there, they feel you are no longer important.”

Reacting to why not much has been heard of Skiibii, another artiste under Five Star Music, he said it was just unfortunate that when he joined them, there were many projects on ground.

“Skiibii is talented and he has a lot of songs as I speak to you. But after the label concluded with my projects, Harrysong came next. Skiibii is supposed to be the next artiste on our list after Harrysong, but you need money and you need to pay attention to the brand also. I think those little factors affected him one way or the other. We still believe in him and plan to support him except if anything happens otherwise.”

Unlike Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, the Ajegunle-born singer insisted that they don’t intend to sign many artistes at Five Star Music, noting that they are not interested in numbers but in getting the job done well.

He maintained, “We have the capacity to sign 20 artistes if we want to, but we have our own style that we follow. We take our time before we sign on artistes and we go for people who have raw talent. Right now, we are just trying to put things together. When we are ready to sign artistes, we will make it open to everyone.”

Kcee also stated that he is still open to working with his former partner, Presh. According to him, there is nothing impossible.

“When I broke up with Presh, I never expected it. When Harrysong left too, I didn’t expect him to leave at that time and in the manner he did. Sometimes, when things happen, you just have to relax and ask questions. Anything can still happen in life. Tomorrow, God might connect Presh and me together again.”
