A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir Elrufai to pay a sum of N40 million naira to Chocolate City boss Audu Maikori for his unlawful arrest and detention in February of this year.
Maikori was arrested twice in February and March at the behest of the state governor on charges of incitement. The lawyer and record label executive had announced the killing of some students in Kaduna State by Fulani herdsmen. He later reacted the statement when according to him, he found out he was misinformed.
Nevertheless, he was arrested and charged by the Kaduna State government. In May, Audu Maikori sued Elrufai to court for 10 billion naira for gross violation of his rights. The judge today announced a ruling against the defendants and directed them to compensate Maikori.
This ruling however, has no interference with the on-going incitement case against Maikori.
