Plateau: War Against Indiscipline (WAI) trains 85 volunteers to help fight indiscipline

85 volunteers have been trained by the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) Brigade to help fight indiscipline and corruption in Plateau, according to Mr. Bulus Dabit, NOA Director in the state.

Dabit on Monday in Jos that the volunteers went through three months of rigorous training that armed them to tackle the two vices and also inculcate values of patriotism into the society.

“The trainees are ready to serve Nigeria; they are willing to be engaged by the Police for community policing and intelligence gathering,” he said.

He stated that the WAI volunteers, also known as Community Support Brigade, could also augment the efforts of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, in the fight against drug abuse.

“Some communities have become notorious for crimes as well as drugs sale and intake.

“Tackling such crimes cannot be easy for the security agencies because the perpetrators usually escape into bushes; but the WAI volunteers, who are also members of such communities, can quickly assist the security agents to get the suspects,” he said.

He explained that the WAI brigade, a youth volunteer group established in 1983 when President Muhammadu Buhari was a military leader, was concerned with fighting indiscipline and corruption.

“The group is being resuscitated because the vices it fought then, are still here with us,” Dabit said.
