Okey Bakassi Channels humour to another level

Popular comedian, Okey Bakassi, seems to be taking humour to a different level nowadays, especially with his newest engagement: an unusual news programme titled The Other News, aired on Channels Television at 7.30pm every Thursday.

The comedian, who has also appeared in a number of Nollywood movies, recently explained on Classic FM why the programme, an original concept of Channels TV, was created.

Stating that the programme was borne out of a need to give a softer edge to hard news and topical issues as presented in the mass media, he said, “Sometimes when you are tuned to news channels and listen to the news, it will appear as if all the problems of the country are about to descend on your shoulders. Before you know it, you will be having a headache just by listening to the news. So, we decided to make the business of telling the news softer, since there is always a softer side to everything.

“Underneath the open news that we read out lies humour. What we do is to mime it and bring it out to the audience so that they can also read between the lines. Our goal is basically to entertain, inform and enlighten Nigerians, as well as to inspire the youths to pay attention to the things happening around them.”
