Shocking!!! Police arrests 78 year-old man for alleged kidnapping

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 78-year-old-man and a teenager along side  thirteen suspects for kidnapping, extra-judicial killings, and armed robbery, among other crimes across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Kamal Abubakar, a Deputy Superintendent of Police,  who addressed journalists on the successes recorded before parading the suspects at the Police headquarters on Friday, said they were arrested at different locations across the state.

He said a combined team from the anti-kidnapping unit and a vigilance group arrested 40-year-old Buba Sale, who kidnapped a 17-year-old lady and her four-month-old baby on July 6, 2017, and demanded a ransom of N500, 000.

“The hostage was rescued alive and rushed to the hospital where she was admitted for treatment,” he said.

The PPRO said the command also arrested 78-year-old Alhaji Isa Mohammed and 27-year-old Abdulrashid Ismail for being accomplices in the snatching of a motorcycle, adding that the suspects specialised in buying stolen motorcycles.

He identified other arrested persons to include 27-year-old Kamalu Mohammed, 23-year-old Tijjani Musa and 35-year-old Abubakar Umar.

He said exhibits recovered from the suspects included five different brands of motorcycles.

The PPRO added that detectives from the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the command also arrested a suspected gang leader of a group that specialises in extra-judicial killings, BA BELI, Baushe Ango, for killing innocent civilians at the slightest suspicion of being a criminal in Ganjuwa, Darazo and Bauchi local government areas. He said they invaded the house of their victims and robbed them of two mobile phones, three sets of wrappers and N25,000. “They also made attempt to assassinate them before they narrowly escaped,” he added.

Speaking further, he said, “The suspects kidnapped their victims and robbed them of 72 cows valued at N8.5m. Exhibits recovered from them include 30 cows, 10 sheep, one Dane gun, two cutlasses and charms.

Abubakar said that all the suspects were assisting the police with useful information that would help in arresting their accomplices, after which they would be charged to court for prosecution.

He also urged members of the public not to relent in providing useful information that could assist the police in making the state safe.
