See First Woman to Head Supreme Court in South Africa

For the first time in the history of South Africa, a woman will be heading the Supreme Court of appeal following the endorsement of President Zuma.

 
South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma has appointed Justice Mandisa Maya as the President of the Supreme Court of Appeal, the president’s office said on Friday, making her the first woman to occupy the position.
“Her appointment to the position elevates her to the third highest position in the Judicial Branch, after the Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice of the Republic,” Zuma said.
NAN reports that on April 4, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) recommended Maya to Zuma for the appointment. Maya filled the vacancy that occurred following the discharge from active service of Mr. Justice Khayelihle Mthiyane.
Justice Maya has close to thirty years’ experience in the legal profession, having started as an attorney’s clerk at a law firm in uMthatha in 1987. She then went on to work as a court interpreter, prosecutor and assistant state law adviser in uMthatha.
She served her pupillage at the Johannesburg Bar and practised as an advocate between 1993 to 1995. She was appointed an acting judge of the High Court in 1999 and a full time judge the following year. She has acted as a judge at the Labour Court, an acting judge in the Supreme Court of Appeal, and as an acting judge at the Constitutional Court.
In 2006 she was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Appeal.
Justice Maya holds three university degrees: B.Proc from the University of Transkei, LLB from the University of Natal, and LLM from Duke University in the United States where she was a Fulbright scholar.

Man plays video game in the hospital while his wife is in labour

A man not willing to be stressed while his wife is in the process of giving birth, decided to cool his nerves by playing a video game.

The wife had taken to social media on November 25, to share a photo taken at the exact moment he started playing Warzone in the hospital while she was mid-labour.

It is not clear if she is the one that took it neither is it confirmed whether the photo was snapped before she went into the labour room.

However, the wife simply known as Sarahi on Twitter, condemned his behavior.

She wrote; ”I hate this dude, mid labor and he playing warzone’‘

On November 27, Sarahi also shared photos of herself and the newborn baby after putting to bed.

“Introducing our rainbow baby, born 11/25/2020, so very thankful for you son , you will get better in no time Jair Eduardo”, she tweeted.

The father of three shared a photo on his son, Ifeanyi, on his Instagram page this morning and wrote;

Davido and his partner, Chioma Rowland, welcomed their son in October 2019.

Fans and followers were excited to catch another glimpse of what the beloved Ifeanyi Adeleke looks like a year after he was born.

My album is the best that dropped in 2020 – L.A.X boasts

Nigerian Afropop singer, Damilola Afolabi, known professionally as L.A.X has taken to Twitter to crown his new album ”Zaza Vibez” as the best to drop in 2020.

The artiste who is signed to Starboy Entertainment, released Zaza Vibes which is a 12-track project, on Thursday, November 26, 2020.

The new album boasts of collaborations with Nigerian music stars; Tiwa Savage, Simi, Mr Eazi, Peruzzi, Tekno, amongst others.

Speaking on the weight of his new baby project, L.A.X downplayed other albums dropped by his colleagues this year, by stating that his own is the best.

He said; ”My album is easily the best album that dropped in 2020 . NO CAP”

Some of the producers who worked on the album include; Clemzy, Blaise Beatz, Quebeatz, Spotless, Legendury Beatz.

Recall that Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, Olamide, Adekunle Gold, DJ Cuppy and Fireboy, all dropped albums this year and they received massive positive reviews.
