President Buhari treats me like a son – Yemi Osinbajo

Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Thursday said President Muhammadu Buhari treats him like a son.

According to to a series of tweets posted on the Twitter handle of his spokesman, Laolu Akande, @akandeoj, the Ag. President spoke at the palace of Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumin Usman, during his visit to the state for the inauguration of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Clinic.

“I feel very much at home in Katsina. More so, because this is the state of the President who has taken me as a brother.

“In fact, the President has taken me as a son in the way he treats me,” Akande quoted the 60-year-old Osinbajo as saying about the 74-year-old President.

Osinbajo was reported to have also said that with the kind of responsibilities assigned to him, Buhari had left no one in doubt that both of them could live together as brothers.

While saying that the President believes in the unity of the country, Osinbajo prayed that God would preserve Buhari who is currently on medical vacation in London, the United Kingdom.

“The amount of responsibilities President Buhari has given me shows he seriously believes we can live together as brothers.

“I pray the Lord will preserve our President to continue to lead as the nation has voted him to do. He seriously believes in Nigerian unity,” he added.

Osinbajo was further quoted to have restated the Federal Government’s commitment to the ease of doing business in the country.

He disclosed that even on Thursday, the Corporate Affairs Commission succeeded in registering three companies within two hours.

This, he said, was an evidence of government’s commitment.

Akande also quoted the Emir as saying, while welcoming Osinbajo, that unity among people of different faiths and ethnic backgrounds was necessary.

Nigeria Will Exit Recession By First Quarter Of 2021 – Finance Minister

Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed has revealed that Nigeria would emerge from recession in the fourth quarter of this year or by the first quarter of 2021.

Recall that on Saturday, Nigeria officially went into recession for the second time under President Muhammadu Buhari‘s administration.

Speaking on Monday at the ongoing 26th Nigerian Economic Summit organized by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group and the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Zainab said the current recession would be short-lived.

She blamed COVID-19 for the current recession, saying it followed the pattern across the world where many countries had entered an economic recession.

“Nigeria is not alone in this, but I will say that Nigeria has outperformed all of these economies in terms of the record of a negative growth,” Ahmed said.

Court Remands Nigerian Senator, Ali Ndume, In Prison

Senator Ali Ndume, the lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial district has been ordered on Monday by a federal high court to be sent to prison.

The order follows his inability to produce Abdulrasheed Maina, the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Task Team, whom he stood as surety for in his corruption and money laundering trial.

The high court, sitting in Abuja was presided over by Justice Okon Abang and ordered Senator Ndume to be remanded in Kuje correctional centre.

Justice Abang, however, gave three conditions upon which Ndume can regain his freedom namely payment of N500m bail bond into the Federation Account of the Federal Government and present evidence of such payment in court or the FG sells the property situated in Asokoro, Abuja which Ndume pledge as security for the bond and present evidence of sale and payment of the N500m realised into the Federation Account or he (Ndume) produces Maina, who is believed to have now jumped bail, in court.

Shortly after the pronouncement by the Judge, Senator Ndume was led away from the courtroom by security operatives.

CCB Invitation: Magu Can’t Access Assets’ Documents, Says Lawyer

The suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has explained why he failed to honour the invitation of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

Recall that it was reported that CCB is planning to charge Magu for failing to declare his assets after failing to honour the invitation of the bureau.

Quoting portions of Magu’s letter in a statement on Sunday titled, ‘CCB invitation: Magu lacks access to relevant documents – Lawyer’ the embattled former EFCC boss lawyer Wahab Shittu said some of the documents requested by the CBB have been seized by the DSS and the retired Justice Ayo Salami-led panel.

He stated that Magu told the CCB that DSS removed the documents from his office while he was in detention following his suspension from office to pave the way for his probe by the panel.

Mr. Wahab Shittu also asked the CCB to reschedule the invitation till when Magu would have access to his office and the relevant documents.

He said, “We wish to state that our client did not shun the CCB invitation as the media reportage did not reflect the true position of the narrative.

“We wish to state with high sense of responsibility that we have written two letters to the Chairman of the CBB, intimating him about the inability of our client to have access to the relevant documents as required by the CCB.”
