Police discovers body of unidentified person in Bauchi State

The Police has discovered the body of a yet-to-be-identified person at Yuga Forest in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, Garba Umar, said in a statement on Wednesday that an AK47 rifle was also recovered beside the corpse.

He said, “At 5.30pm on May 14, 2017, following an intelligence report, police detectives attached to the Ningi division discovered a decomposed body at Yuga forest in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

“One AK47 rifle with Breach No 3200962 and 27 live ammunition were also recovered beside the corpse.”

He said that the Social Welfare Department was contacted in order to bury the victim after a post-mortem examination.

The police boss said that during the week under review, the command arrested nine armed robbery suspects and recovered arms from them.

According to him, on May 10, 2017 at about 5pm, police detectives attached to the Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate Division in collaboration with neighbourhood watch at Madina quarters arrested members of an armed robbery gang.

He said those arrested are Garba Abdulmumini, (25),Mohammed Musa, AKA Daji (22), and Munkaila Mohammed, AKA Babawo (28).

“On May 8, the suspects invaded the house of one Abubakar Mohammed around 1am. They beat and robbed him of his Samsung Galaxy phone and N18,000 at gunpoint before fleeing,” he stated.

He said one fabricated gun, four live 7.62mm ammunition, knifeand other incriminating items were recovered from the suspects.

“Preliminary investigation further revealed that the principal suspect, Abdulmumini Garba, bought the rifle from one Barnabas Ayuba male (26) of Yelwa at the cost of N21,000. He was subsequently arrested and voluntarily confessed,” Umar said.

The CP stated that six members of another robbery gang were also arrested.

He said the suspects attacked a commercial bus driver along the Bauchi-Jos highway and in the process, shot dead the conductor.

According to him, on AK47 rifle, seven rounds of 7.62 live ammunition and four mobile phones.

“All cases are under investigation after which suspects would be charged to court for prosecution,” Umar said.
