Ayuba Donates Music Museum To UNILAG

NIGERIAN Fuji icon, Dr.Adewale Ayuba, an alumnus of Unilag recently paid a courtesy visit to the University of Lagos’s management through University of Lagos Alumni, Lagos State branch.

Adewale Ayuba is to donate a music museum to the University of Lagos and this was officially announced during the visit. In his opening remark, Dr. Lukumon Adeoti, an associate professor in the Department of Geophysics and chairman Unilag Alumni Lagos branch emphasised on the need to develop the university so she can be ranked with schools like Harvard, and reiterated this can only be possible if members of the Alumni association ensure their alma-mater is catered for in academic and infrastructural development. Adeoti recalled that Dr Ayuba’s attention was drawn to the university through the association’s campaign to bring distinguished alumni members in all works of life to drive the development of the university.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Rahmon Bello, while commending the alumni and Dr. Ayuba decried Unilag’s ranking among world’s universities, pointing out the university is inappropriately ranked while the research inputs and makeup of the university’s academia that were trained in different universities in the entire world is often ignored.

He argued that Unilag is one of the best schools in the world and said he can defend the assertion anywhere in the world with facts. He agreed with Dr. Adeoti that the alumni are important catalysts in the development of universities and thanked Ayuba for coming back home. The vice chancellor described Ayuba’s visit as epochal and called the gathering a family meeting. According to him, Ayuba will leave a legacy through the donation which will be properly documented and utilized for the benefits of lecturers, students and other visiting scholars to the university.

Ayuba who came in the company of his wife and other well-wishers thanked the University Management and the Alumni Association for the opportunity given to him to contribute to the growth and development of the university and proudly said he has come to associate with the brand Unilag any where he goes in the world. Ayuba in a lighter note added that apart from a musician, he would have been a teacher because of his love for education.

The high point of the occasion was when the first Deputy Vice Chancellor, Development Services of University of Lagos Prof Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola presented a souvenir to Dr Ayuba and his wife in appreciation of their visit and contribution to the University.
