Prospective candidates destroy JAMB office in Makurdi

Published

Several prospective candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, on Thursday, hurled stones at the zonal office of the examination body located along George Akume Road, Makurdi, Benue State.

The protesting candidates shattered the windows of the JAMB zonal office even as some other properties were destroyed.

The applicants had thronged the major road leading to the zonal office around 8am, blocking the road with bonfires which disrupted the free flow of vehicular traffic.

It took the intervention of policemen deployed in the area before the applicants could leave the arena.

Some of the prospective candidates also took their protest to Benue State Government House, where they expressed their anger over the tedious manner it was taking to enrol for this year’s examination.

One of the prospective candidates, who simply identified himself as Gabriel, told our correspondent that he had faced frustration at one of the banks earmarked for the registration exercise.

He said, “For three days, I was at Union Bank but could not process the payment as required, I later moved to Post Office in Makurdi where I finally paid to get the code and this was after two days.”

Speaking on the issue, the zonal coordinator, Mr Samuel Umoru, said that the applicants were not patient enough, adding that those who were patient had been registering.
