Audu Maikori’s Re-arrest Is Brazen Display Of Arrogance, Intimidation – PDP Youths

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Youth Frontier has condemned the unlawful re-arrest of former Chocolate City boss, Audu Maikori by security agents allegedly acting on the order of Kaduna state governor – Nasir El-rufai.

In a statement signed and issued by its National Coordinator, Usman Okai Austin, the opposition youth group described Maikori’s re-arrest in Lagos as a “brazen display of arrogance and intimidation” by a sitting governor.

The youths warned El-rufai against been carried away by any future political ambition he may be nursing; stressing that political objectives in a democracy cannot be realized through bullying of critics and silencing of opposition voices.

The statement reads: “We are saddened that Governor Nasir Elrufai has refused to heed several wise counsels over an issue that ordinarily should not even be a matter of discussion. The governor is bent on using state apparatus to oppress, frustrate and intimidate Audu Maikori.

“If El-rufai thinks he can bully his way to the Presidency in 2019 then he needs to wake up.

“We are very much aware that he is doing all these to silence any possible opposition to his 2019 ambition but we Nigerians are waiting to reject him when the time comes. He has failed Kaduna state as governor; he will never be allowed to lead Nigeria”.

“It is in the interest of the governor to solve the Southern Kaduna problem by bringing everybody to the table instead of trying to lock and arrest opposition figures.

“Intimidation and impunity have no place in a democracy, the governor must be told”.

“We have always stood for democracy and justice; we will not stop to see that every Mr. Minority in Nigeria gets justice.

“El-rufai is a threat to democracy. We must not allow him go away with his show of impunity and abuse of his powers,” the group stated.
