70 Students Receive UK Based Social Worker Scholarship In Edo

It was celebration galore as over seventy students from selected secondary and tertiary institutions across the 18 local Government Areas of Edo State, last weekend emerged lucky winners of the bursary award of Hon Alile Coalition Initiatives.

The awardee, a United Kingdom based Social worker and a philanthropist, Hon Pius Alile Idele, explained that he was moved to alleviate the suffering of parents and students who are challenged in meeting the educational need of their children especially in the face of recession in the land.

He also disclosed that since his arrival in the country few months ago he is currently embarking on some self –help community based projects, this he noted is to alleviate poverty at that level.

He pointed out that the beneficiaries were screened by a committee to carefully identified intelligent students from poor background as one of the criteria in granting the scholarship.

Speaking shortly after the award presentation stated “Basically, we are aware of the economic situation of the Country, we want to help families, parents and support the children who are going through a lot. Many of them are finding it difficult to go to school and feed, so we felt the need to come and support them.

“Our motivation is basically the economy of the country and my passion for education, I have also experienced hardship myself growing up so it wasn’t difficult for me identify with their needs.

“We decided to also support the disable people because I work with people with learning disability in the UK so when you come to this kind of our system where government doesn’t have plans for disable people I felt we can do something to assist them.
