A flood that occurred as a result of persistent rainfall in some communities in Cross River State have rendered over 4,000 persons homeless while as many as 900 farms were also destroyed.

This is revealed in a statement issued by the Assistant Director of the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency , Mr. David Akate, as he said that more than 1,200 houses were flooded in communities such as Ogoja, Obudu, Yala, Ikom, Etung, Boki, Abi and Biase Local Government Areas.

Assessing the disaster, the Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency, John Inaku, said the disaster was as a result of climate change, as predicted by NIMET some months ago.

Inaku urged the farmers to exercise patience, as government was taking pragmatic steps and mobilizing stakeholders to intervene in the disaster.

He, however, advised that caution should be taken by farmers carrying out emergency harvesting of the flooded crops to avoid drowning, while those in flooded homes should evacuate to higher grounds without delay.
